"A great deal of healing arises from a wounded self. The sympathetic and empathetic self creates profound healing. When we courageously explore our own pain, we become more insightful, more ego contained, and more awake to the essential qualities of the healer. The wound becomes our gift."
Clarissa Pinkola Estes
We all carry trauma from our past and present experiences. How could we not when we live in a culture that values profits and materialism over the well-being of humans, animals, and mother nature? We are separated from each other, living our highly individualized lives in our separate homes, many of us without the loving support of family or friends. With our increasing reliance on technology, we are cut off from the beauty and grace of Mother Nature, with the walls of our homes keeping it out and blocked from our view. The old ways of living close to nature and community, with the support of the village are not something that we have known much in the West, and this separation is the primary reason for our trauma. We are separated from nature, from a true connection to the divine, from ourselves, and from one another, and at a great price. We are unplugged from the very things that would sustain us...the living, breathing support of loved ones and the nurturing comfort of Mother Earth.
Our trauma is multi-faceted - personal, collective, ancestral, and ecological. It is a result of childhood abuse and neglect, toxic relationships, abuse in adulthood, personal and collective catastrophe, and the many ways that we are traumatized by living in an insensitive world - by the harm done by others to us, to our kin, to other humans and animals, and to the Earth. In addition, we are deeply affected by global issues such as poverty, pandemic, slavery, misogyny, addiction, greed, corruption, and more.
We wander through our lives half-asleep and in a constant state of grief, wondering what is missing and what is wrong. When we turn to our doctors for help, they medicate us. Many of us binge on TV and succumb to addictions of all kinds in an attempt to anesthetize our painful and unfulfilled lives. We know something is missing, but we don't know what, and so we blame and shame ourselves, and then we become sicker and even more isolated.
It is not your fault and there is nothing wrong with you. Any symptoms that you may experience from your personal trauma, collective trauma, or the trauma you have taken on from others who you work to help, that take the form of anxiety, depression, anger, rage, hopelessness, despair, fear, and the like are all normal responses to the abnormal situation that we find ourselves in. It is a result of your personal history, the history of your ancestors, our collective history, present circumstances, and from your desire to help.
In addition, navigating life while attempting to heal your trauma, transform your life and help others can be extremely isolating and challenging. Our culture does not often treat trauma survivors, those with mental health challenges, helpers, or those who are different in a compassionate way, and as a result, we may often experience shaming and judgment from others who simply cannot understand or appreciate the unique challenges that we face each day. This can make our work much more challenging and isolating than it needs to be.
What many don't understand is that the symptoms we struggle with are not only our personal struggles...we are intimately connected with all other beings on this planet, and so we are deeply affected by the pain of those we work with, the pain of the world, and the pain of our ancestors. This deep resonance with the pain of others is even more pronounced for those of us who are highly sensitive and empathic by nature, which is most of us that have a deep desire to help others who suffer.
Our suffering is not in vain. The truth is that when we face it, our trauma and grief open us up spiritually, giving us direct access to deeper wisdom and a sense of connection to spirit than most other people have. When we face our own grief and darkness and touch it with compassion, we gain more connection to our light, and with it, more creativity, joy, vitality, and connection with all of life. It is hard work, but a very important, and worthy trade-off.
We can spend decades attempting to heal and grow in isolation, and it simply does not work well. We are injured in relationships, and we must heal in relationships. We need each other, we need the support of the village to hold us as we do our soul work. At this crucial time in history, the world desperately needs healers, creatives, teachers, and guides more than ever - those who have walked through the fire of personal pain and trauma and are eager to offer their personal medicine to the world, and the world needs us to be well.
In indigenous cultures, those who, like survivors, struggle with mental illness, depression, anxiety, those who have survived trauma and live with mental struggles are seen as the shaman of the tribe - they are the ones who naturally are able to see beyond the veil into the world of the unseen - the world of spirit. They are powerful healers with the capacity to bring great change to our world and are nurtured and supported by the tribe as such. Clearly, this kind of deeper understanding of the implications of mental and emotional struggles is not often viewed this way in the West, but that can change.
This is an invitation to those who are ready for the next stage of healing and evolution, those who care deeply about the world, about defending and caring for the voiceless, the innocent ones, the animals, Mother Nature, and all of life. This is for the wounded healers, the survivors, the misfits, the creatives, the teachers, the writers, the poets, and the visionaries. As we heal our own traumas and learn to tend to our own needs first, we heal the traumas of our mothers, grandmothers, and the world, and we pave a new way of life for our descendants.
My hope is that our community offers you a safe space of connection where you feel seen, understood, validated, and accepted by those who have had similar life experiences and hold similar values. May our work together provide you with a space of deep personal healing, embodiment, connection, belonging, growth, learning, purpose, and fulfillment.
It is my sincere hope that our circle feeds your soul and that you never feel alone again. And so it is.
The wise woman is one of the primary feminine archetypes, and she lives within each woman, no matter what our age may be. We are under the tutelage of the wise woman, learning her ways of walking through the world in reverence, compassion, service, and love. The wise woman teaches us to heal, grow, evolve, and transmute our trauma into embodied wisdom. and into our own unique sacred medicine. The wise woman walks through the world in self-mastery, maturity, kindness, and care.
The wise woman works to cultivate a sense of safety, home, and belonging within herself and her own body - she understands from past experience that seeking safety outside of herself never works, and that she must instead find a way to create safety for herself even though she may have never received it as a child. She knows that her deep inner healing work is vital to her sense of well-being, and she does her best to attune to her own deeper needs and wisdom so that she is able to fulfill her own needs and desires as best as she can. The wise woman is willing to face her shadows and grief, as she understands that they alone can give her access to her light, creativity, vitality, and joy.
The wise woman is rooted in herself, she is embodied, resourced, self-reliant, and self-empowered, and while she may surely enjoy having supportive others in her life, she is not dependent on them to meet her needs or tell her that she is worthy. She does that for herself.
The wise woman doesn’t apply to convention and paves her own way. She is unafraid to use her voice to speak up for things that matter to her, and she does not need anyone else's approval. She has strong boundaries and stands in the truth and power of who she is and all she has survived. She operates on her own self-authority and works to cultivate and maintain emotional maturity, resilience, and self-mastery in all areas of her life.
The wise woman alchemizes her core wounds into sacred medicine to assist others who need the unique magic that only she can offer the world. This is powerful alchemy...transforming the toxic shame that is at the core of trauma into embodied wisdom and leadership.
The wise woman is a woman who is blossoming into the fullest version of herself.
This membership community is a good fit for:
Women who have already been engaged in some type of therapy or healing in the past. This is not for those who are beginners to healing and coaching work.
Women who are able to contain and tolerate their own emotions, and are able to care for themselves when triggered or distressed. I will not be able to caretake your emotional well-being within this group, so this is not suitable for people who don’t feel comfortable learning about trauma recovery and deep shadow work without 1:1 emotional support, although I am available for personal healing sessions outside of the community space for those who need it.
Those who are looking for guidance, education, and support to help them live a thriving life despite living with trauma, mental health issues, or emotional challenges. You do not need to be diagnosed with PTSD, CPTSD, or anything else to be in this group.
Women who are ready to honor their past, look at their present life with more compassion and are eager to grow, evolve and embody the mature feminine.
Those who would like to be a part of a community of like-minded women who are working to heal, grow, evolve, and step into sacred service.
Women who resonate with my work and mission and would like to delve into post-traumatic growth to become the woman you have always known you were meant to be.
